Otago’s Trip to Orokonui

Dress up Kiwi | Otago, New Zealand | Volunteer Trip | College Study Abroad | IFSA-Butler Lunch at Orokonui | Otago, New Zealand | Volunteer Trip | College Study Abroad | IFSA-Butler On a sunny Friday afternoon the Otago group set off towards the Orokonui Ecosanctuary for a chance to get our hands dirty with some volunteering for a good cause. The beautiful views along the coast road started the trip off on the right foot, and the good times only continued when we met the always colorful Tahu. Free spirited Tahu taught us about the history of the land, the current conservation effort and all the stunning species that were living within. The group said good bye to Tahu after a small taste of dress up and settled into what can only be described as a feast of an afternoon tea. We ate out on the deck taking in the valley views. Full and ready to roll, it was time to get down to the nitty gritty. Our task was to clear research paths of weeds and gorce. To do so we split into two teams. Armed with saws and clippers we took aim at these horrible pest plants doing plenty of positive damage along the way. Afterwards we rewarded ourselves by heading over to the Tuatara and Skink viewing enclosures. It took a keen eye to spot them, but once you did you realized they were right in front of you! Thanks for a great day team Volunteering at Orokonui | Otago, New Zealand | Volunteer Trip | College Study Abroad | IFSA-ButlerLeaving The Bush | Otago, New Zealand | Volunteer Trip | College Study Abroad | IFSA-Butler
